Bargain Shopping Product Review: CSN Stores . . . 2nd try

As you may recall, my first review of the CSN Stores shopping experience was rather neutral. I had a good experience, but probably ordered the product too soon and didn't have a chance to try it out until I was past the company's 30-day return policy.

So, they offered me another try. I thought that was very generous of them! In exchange for my unbiased review, they offered to send me another product, up to a certain value. And I took them up on their offer. I wanted to see how the experience compared, now being more mindful of the return policy.

Since we're still putting the finishing touches on our kitchen remodel, I wanted to order something I would need for that—like a window treatment. I ended up ordering the Radiance Cape Cod Roman Shade in Maple (maple color, not maple wood). We've used a lot of cool colors and stainless accents in our kitchen, so I wanted to add an organic touch through wooden Roman shades, and these fit the bill. They are made of "hand selected" bamboo, and looked beautiful online. I ordered one shade to fit the window behind my sink in my kitchen. The size I ordered is priced at $35.00, plus $7.95 for shipping—the same Radiance Cape Cod Bamboo Roman Shade in Maple sells for $42.51 with free shipping on Amazon. So, the price is pretty competitive.

On a side note, my intention was to purchase another of the same shade for my other kitchen window, but through another seller. More on that, later. Both window treatments together cost me only $34.22, and at regular price would have cost me almost $95—a savings of $60!! Oh, I can't wait to share more with you in another post.

Back to my review . . . the CSN shopping experience was fairly easy! In my first review, I mentioned that navigating the CSN sites can be a little confusing and overwhelming, and I would say that again. I'm not sure that they have made much improvement on that aspect. They do have such a wide array of products to choose from—which is good—but, I think they could make the sorting process easier and more seamless.

However, I was able to find what I was looking for, and the purchase process was easy and pain-free. Their order confirmation and shipping confirmation e-mails were great! It kept me updated on the progress of my order, and the shipment, once it left their warehouses. I have no complaints! And shipping was timely, too.

Once I received the shade, I was quick to open it up and inspect it. It was EXACTLY what I wanted. I was thrilled! The packaging was great, and nothing had been damaged in-transit. Whew!

My husband just installed it for me this past weekend, and I couldn't be happier! It's beautiful, the shopping experience was great, the quality of the product is wonderful, and I'm so pleased. Thank you to CSN Stores for the opportunity to review your products! And while their Web site is a bit tricky to navigate, I would recommend them as a great place to find . . . well, just about anything!

    Happy bargain shopping!

So excited! New bedding for $50!

Lately, I've been trying to do/get little things that will help my family (and mostly me) feel a bit more settled in our new house. We've been so absorbed with our kitchen remodel for so long that now I'm wanting to get the rest of the house in order and looking the way I want it. We still have some minor, cosmetic things to finish up in the kitchen, but the rest of the house deserves my attention now. And with the new baby on the way, I think my nesting instincts have been heightened. Our budget is rather limited, so I'm trying to be creative in obtaining some of the needed items—after all, I am a bargain shopper! Here's a list of projects I'm trying to tackle:
    • Lamps for the living room
    • Ceiling/hanging lamp for the dining area
    • "New" used dining furniture
    • Paint the kids' room (it's currently lavender and doesn't match the current gender-neutral animal theme)
    • Lamps/lighting in the guest room
    • Hang pictures!
    • New bedding for master bedroom
    • Recover our living room throw pillows.
    • Find a thrifty (but nice) couch or two for the living room
    • Paint/revamp bookshelves in master bedroom
    • Finish painting around construction areas in the kitchen
    • Backsplash and flooring in the kitchen
    • Organizational fixes & needs throughout the house
    • Paint trim throughout house (big job; will happen in stages)
    • Get my daughter potty trained :)
Those are just some of the things on my list for the next 16 weeks. We'll see how much gets done. But, we checked a fun one off the list last night when we picked up a "new" bedding set from a fellow Craigslister! I'm so excited! It's so luxurious! Our old set was dark burgundy and tan, and really just too dark for our room. It was also not made of the greatest, most comfortable material. I was ready for a change. We needed something white and fresh and pretty and wonderful, and I found it on CL for $50. We had to drive a short distance outside of town, but it was worth it. I can't imagine getting this bedding ANYwhere for under $150 or more! It's cotton, has great loft, and is just too pretty and fresh for words. Here's a look:

I actually think I slept better last night. :) Now, I need a couple of pretty matching/coordinating bedside lamps! You better believe I'm keeping my eyes out, just about everywhere I go. I'll post more as things get done, and especially as the kitchen nears completion. Happy bargain shopping!

    Bargain Brag Wednesday

    February 16, 2011

We've been living in our house for about six and a half months now, and have been steeped in a massive kitchen remodel. We didn't take it down to the studs, but we did everything but that. And I shouldn't say "we," we did have someone else do most of the work, because my husband and I just aren't that handy. But, with the remodel, we haven't been able to get truly settled in the rest of the house. But, now that the kitchen is functional (minus some cosmetic things), I'm really feeling the urge to nest. That could also have something to do with our bun in the oven, too. So, I've got a list of projects in my head. Getting us organized is one of those, which (of course) involved a trip to Ikea recently. :) Doesn't the mere mention of that store make you smile? I had some Christmas money to spend, so a couple of friends and I make the trek. And boy, was it worth it! I walked out of there with $140-worth of wonderful home organization items, and am already using many of them. My next bargain shopping goal is to get some bargain lamps for our living room and bedroom—lamps that are nice as-is, or that I can tweak to fit my purposes. Wish me luck!

      Saturday's Bargains

I had a fun Saturday, yesterday. Why? Well, (of course) it involved bargain shopping! I haven't been able to get out and do a lot of bargain hunting lately, so it was a wonderful day.

But, first . . . just an aside . . . we're having a boy! Around the beginning of June, he'll enter the world, and we couldn't be more excited.

So, back to my fun Saturday—I left the house at around 8:45 in the morning, in order to hit up a local cloth diaper consignment sale. People line up for this whenever they have one, and I was hoping to find some new diapers so I could sell off some of my older ones. I ended up being one of the first people through the door, so the minute the sale started, I headed straight to the pocket diapers, and fared pretty well! I walked out the door with two more one-sized pocket diapers, an Imse Vimse one-sized organic cotton contour diaper, a Kissaluvs one-sized diaper cover, and 2 Happy Heinies trainers, all for under $55! I found some great deals! Now, to figure out which of my older diapers to sell. Sorry, I don't have pictures of the new diapers to share.

Then after coming home, and being greeted with hugs and kisses from my little girl, I grabbed some breakfast, and enjoyed some family time.

After nap time, we all piled in the car and headed over to a local children's consignment store for their "Fill-A-Bag for $15" sale! I L-O-V-E this sale. Whenever they have one, I try to make it there. They give you a bag, and you fill it with whatever you can cram in from their clearance selection, and pay only $15/bag! It's great! I grabbed some great steals last year for my daughter. And this year, I was shopping for toddler girl sizes, AND little boy clothes! That felt so strange . . . but so fun! Here's a sampling of what I grabbed, and I got it ALL in ONE bag--both the boys' and girls' items!

Now, if all that wasn't enough! We walked down to a local outdoors/hiking store that's really close to the consignment shop, and wandered into their clearance section just for curiosity. We love hiking and being outside, so this is just a fun shop to peruse. Their stuff is normally way too pricey for us, but it's fun to look. We do sometime pick up necessary odds and ends for a backpacking or hiking trip from them. Anyway, I never knew they had a little back room dedicated to clearance items, but we found it this time! What fun! And, we found these adorable Smartwool (I LOVE Smartwool) socks for babies 6-12 months for $9.99 (normally almost $19). Aren't they adorable?!

So, that was my fun, fun bargain shopping day. I love saving money!!
