  • I'm loving this wreath made from book pages by Tales of a Domestic Goddess! Although, being a book publishing professional, I have to do an inner *gasp* of horror. :o) I still like the wreath, though!

  • Congrats to Debbie at Love the Decor on such a frugally fabulous find! She found this shelf (originally over $200) for under $60! What a savings!

  • Now, I don't know why the Goodwill's in our area don't do "Dollar Days," but they should! I might just hike on over to "Popcorn Served Daily's" area to do a little shopping. :o) She found a ton of great home decor items and only paid a few buck for it all. Head on over and check out her great finds!

Nestle Coupons

I'm not a major couponer (although I enjoy saving money with coupons). But, I did come across a slew of new Nestle coupons on their Web site just this morning. There are a bunch of money-savers there, if you enjoy Nestle products. Check it out!

DEAL ALERT: 10 FREE! 8x8 photo books

If you haven't "heard" me talk about Artscow, yet, I think they are great! I really like their photo products. While some of them are cheesy (I haven't ordered a lot of the photo door mats or key chains, yet), I really like the quality of their prints, canvases, photo books, bags, etc.

Right now, they are offering 10 FREE! 8x8 photo books (8 20-page books, PLUS 2 39-page books)--you just pay shipping! Just insert the code 88FRBOOKS through 8/4/10, and your credit will remain available for 30 days.

Plus, if you're not already a member and you join now (it's totally free), you'll receive 1200 free prints credits, 3 8"x8" photo books, and other great photo gifts credits.

DEAL ALERT: Clean teeth? Get cash!

Rite Aid is offering a $10 gift card right now, if you spend $25 on selected oral health products—and a $5 gift card if you spend $15. Pretty cool, huh? You must be a "wellness+" member to get the deal, and you can view a list of the selected products on their Web site. So, get clean teeth and get rewarded!

Bargain Brag Wednesday

July 21, 2010

Here we are again, folks! Hope you've all had a great week since the last WFW. This week was the home inspection for our first house, and everything went really well. Aside from some things that aren't insurmountable, the inspector asked our real estate agent how she found us such a great deal! That's pretty good, right? :o) First thing to tackle will be the kitchen redo. Oh my goodness, I need tips on how to do that as cheaply as possible, and yet keep it looking way chic! Any tips?

We're buying a house!!!! I get more and more excited about it, each time I say it. :o) This is our first time, too. Eeeek! So, of course, I'm soooooo looking forward to sharing all the ways we're going to save money on this venture. So much to do!! We can't wait—especially since our upstairs neighbors (we're in an apartment right now) are having an insanely loud (their literally screaming) domestic dispute this morning. Lovely. But enough of that for now. On to the main event . . .

Money-saving changes ahead for me

With getting ready to purchase a house (FOR THE FIRST TIME!), and move, and all of that, we've really put a halt on any extra spending these days. We're saving every penny! And we were frugal before! But, it seems there is never a shortage of ways to save money. Here are some ways I'm looking to save money right now, and things I'm considering for the very near future:
  1. Furniture re-dos—Once we move, I'll be looking to revamp some of our furniture, instead of buying newer stuff. There will be painting involved, and maybe even some added details. I have a vision, and a non-existent budget, so necessity will indeed be the mother of invention. I love getting my creative juices going. :o) Here's an example of one of the pieces I plan to work on:

A fresh coat of paint, new (2nd-hand, of course) hardware, and some creative details will make this dresser something to show off!
  2. Composting—I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I have a lot to learn, but when we move, I would really like to start doing this!
  3. Alternative feminine products—Greener, more economical ways to deal with good ol' Aunt Flo. :o) I know this may sound weird, and it might be a completely foreign concept to some of you. I've been doing some research on this, and found this post from Simply Organic to be extremely helpful. We use cloth diapers for our child—why not use greener alternative methods myself, instead of dropping valuable $$ on things I'm just throwing away?
  4. No more eating out—This will actually be healthier and cheaper, all at once.
  5. Continue shopping for second-hand everything!
  6. Re-think gifts—(see the post from Simply Organic, again)No, we're not going to stop giving gifts for birthdays and holidays. We just need to re-think them, and consider home-made gifts, gifts of experience (zoo memberships, etc.), home-crafted baked goods, etc.—things that mean more, create memories, cost less, and aren't just more "stuff"!
  7. Keep the car. We've been really tempted to sell our car and get a (*gasp*) minivan (or something functional like that). But, we only have a short amount of time left to pay on our car. It's reliable, even though it's cramped, and it would be better to continue paying it off so that we can eliminate that payment and possibly get something else down the road. It's worth it to put up with being cramped, so that we can save some money and eliminate this debt quickly.
These are just a few things I've been thinking about lately. If you have other ideas, please share! I'm looking for creative ways to pinch pennies and stay smart about our money. It's good to eliminate the fat in our budget! But, it's also really good for me to be reminded to take a good look at wants vs. needs, and how I can re-fresh the things we have without running out to buy the latest and the greatest. I want to be a good steward of the things we have and the money we make—especially as we venture into this new age of home-ownership!

Bargain Shopping Review: CSN Stores

I recently hosted a giveaway from CSN Stores, even though I've never really shopped through them before. I thought it would be fun to take a close look at how efficient and bargain-worthy their Web sites are, and analyzing the ease of the shopping experience, so I was given the opportunity to conduct a review!

CSN Stores has 200+ online stores where you can find everything from LED lighting to briefcases, cookware to baby items, and so much more! They have an immense selection of . . . well, EVERYTHING! You can seriously find just about anything there!

Some of you may remember the CSN giveaway I hosted back in May. They recently contacted me again to see if I would like review one of their products and Web sites. They were kind enough to provide $40 toward the purchase of any item I would like to review from any one of their stores. Of course, I said yes! I'm not sure what I'll be reviewing yet, but my review will be honest and straightforward. I'll be looking for things like:
  • Product quality
  • Product cost
  • Ease of Web site navigation and searching
  • Shipping speed
So, what should I review? I'm considering some of these items:

What do you think? Are there other things I should consider? Stay tuned for my feedback on CSN Stores.
