Bargain Brag Wednesday

June 30, 2010

Can this really be the last day in June! We're really in summer now. Hello humidity! We've had a "cold" front come through recently, so it hasn't been as hot as it usually is this time of year. It's a welcome relief! Although, it hasn't stopped the mosquitoes from attacking us. Anyone have good tips for keeping them at bay without spending a ton of money on name brand repellents? They're driving me nuts! Enough about the weather and the bugs . . .

I announced yesterday that I've changed the name of this link-up to Wallet-Friendly Wednesday. WFW is an opportunity for you to share your latest bargain shopping finds, thrift store outfit deals, DIY projects, side-of-the-road pick-ups, consignment shop steals . . . Introducing Rosebud Lips + Giveaway!

I am so super, stinkin' excited to introduce you to Etsy shop owner Lauren of Rosebud Lips and her beautiful creations! Her motto is, "Wearable Art that is Handmade." I love it! She makes everything from hair accessories and brooches, to jewelry. She makes beautiful items for both adults and children. And trust me, her stuff is gorgeous! But, even better—a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her creations goes to a great cause! Here's a little something the wet your appetite . . .

But, first—here's a little more information about Rosebud Lips. I asked Lauren to share a little bit about herself, her business, and what makes her shop unique. Here's Lauren . . .
I'm 27, and a dreamer. I am a stay at home mommy in The Woodlands, TX, and love to do what I do.

I have always been creative, and learned to sew at a young age. I was taught by my grandmother (Nana) and my mom (Tama). I have always loved fashion, and at a young age moved to New York City. I had the opportunity to intern for designer Cynthia Rowley, which was an amazing experience.
I became a designer because of my sweet memories of being a little girl (about 4) and dancing around in my Nana's silk bed sheets (my cape), adorned with her costume jewelry. I felt like a princess. My Nana has collected jewelry from my family generations back, and I felt like each piece had a story. This inspired me to use antiques in my pieces. I love textures, antiques, fabric and jewelry. Together, these form my concepts for my collection—making every woman feel beautiful.
I started the company in 2009, shortly after my mom passed away from Cancer. She was my best friend, and my biggest supporter. She was an artist herself, and she told me to follow my dreams and be creative. This motivated me to leave the marketing/PR world that I worked in for over 5 years. She has changed the course of my life, and I'm so excited for what the future holds. The name Rosebud Lips was actually the nickname that she gave me when I was little, then my little girl (her granddaughter).
My other passion is to support organizations that fight human trafficking. Set Hope Free. Every item sold through Rosebud Lips is bringing hope to women who have been trapped in oppression. By developing a partnership with I Am Change and the Set Hope Free project, we are redeeming women who have been held captive and oppressed through Human Trafficking and Forced Labor, and restoring hope to their lives. Through rescue support and care kits, we are seeing women reclaim their dignity and allowing them to feel beautiful again. Rosebud Lips is choosing to be the change and bring hope to deserving women and children. To learn more, go to www.iamchange.org.
Now, don't you just want to support that?! As a bonus, you'll have something beautiful to wear! Wow!

I'm such a fan of this necklace . . .

Ooh, and this one, too:

And of course, since I love the color aqua and flowers, I love this headband:

And just another sample of her gorgeous children's accessories:

And here's the cream . . . Rosebud Lips is giving away a fabulous prize to one Bargain Shopping Paradise reader!!! I'm so excited for you all! :o) She's giving away one of her Mercy Rosebud Brooches or Hair Clips in the winner's favorite color! You get to pick whether you want it as a brooch or a hair clip.

TO ENTER (mandatory for entry): Visit the Rosebud Lips Etsy shop, then leave a comment here letting me know what your favorite item is.

Back to life, back to reality

Well, it was a busy weekend! We had a lot of family in town, and our dd was baptized on Sunday. It was a great celebration! Now, all of our guests have departed and it's back to a normal week ahead. I have not been near the computer a lot this weekend, but I'm back at it this week. So, expect more bargain shopping wonderful-ness. :o) It might take me a day or two to filter through all my e-mails and post some of those great deals for you, but I'll get there!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Look what came in the mail today . . .

Remember that EcoTools promotion I talked about a few weeks ago? Well, I sent in an old (and I mean OLD) bottle of lotion from the Body Shop that I just never used, and a set of eye shadow brushes that I've had for a bit too long. My coupons came in the mail, today! Woo-hoo! I can't wait to head over to Rite Aid and get my free stuff!

As far as I know, the promotion is still going. The EcoTools Web site still has the details up and available, so I'm assuming you can still swap your used beauty supplies for these coupons for brand new EcoTools supplies. My coupons expire 12/31/10, so I have plenty of time, and they're good for up to $7.99 value.

    So excited!

Hi, everyone! I hope you've all had a great week, so far. I'll post more on this later, but we've been busy in the bargain shopping world, lately. My husband was promoted, and went from wearing scrubs at work to having to wear dress shirts and ties! We've had to shop for a whole new wardrobe for him! While we have purchased some things brand-new (but not without shopping some serious sales!), we recently found some great dress shirts and ties at Goodwill—shirts for $2.50 and ties for $1.50. Now, you just can't get any better than that! I love bargains!! Now, it's your turn . . .

      A little Swagbucks/cloth diapering tip

If you don't know anything about Swagbucks, but you're curious—visit the Swagbucks "How it Works" page and join for free!

For you veteran Swagsters who ALSO cloth diaper your little ones, I wanted to offer a little tip that's worked to save me some good money on cloth diapering accessories. I really only use Swagbucks as a search engine. I search for EVERYTHING on Swagbucks—Facebook, Gmail, Blogger, anything I would normally use Google for, and any Web sites I visit on a regular basis. That's how I earn my points. Once I get at least 450 Swagbucks, I purchase a $5 Amazon e-Gift Card (btw, if you buy 5–$5 Amazon cards at 450SB/card—total of 2250 SB spent for $25-worth in Amazon cards—it ends up being cheaper than spending 3150 SB for 1–$25 Amazon card). I then can use my Amazon card for whatever I want on Amazon. But, I've been using them lately for cloth diapering accessories! You may not know it, but Amazon stocks a wide variety of items for your cloth diapering needs! I recently bought our Imse Vimse Flushable Liners for a really comparable price (to all the other online cloth diaper retailers).
I used two of my Amazon cards and saved quite a bit of money when I purchased these, and added this 2-pack of Kushies "on-the-go" wet bags for under $10. I think I paid under $8 out-of-pocket for the liners and wet bags, with free shipping!

They even carry a selection of cloth diapers from brands like BumGenius, Econobum, FuzziBunz, Happy Heiny's, Kissaluvs, Kushies, Mother-Ease, SwaddleBees, Thirsties, and many, many more (view the complete list)! I was pleasantly surprised at the selection. They carry AIO's, OS, prefolds, pocket diapers, fitteds, and more. They also have accessories like cloth wipes, wet bags, fasteners, inserts, doublers, complete kits, biodegradable liners, cloth diaper-safe detergents, covers . . . I could go on and on.

Now, just think of the savings, when you combine the resources of Amazon with the power of Swagbucks, and you could get some significant savings on your cloth diapering supplies!

Oh, and they also carry Moby Wraps, and other baby carriers!! Imagine the possibilities for your Swagbucks!

Maybe my next purchase will be this super cute wet bag!

I've got some Amazon e-Gift cards burning a hole in my virtual pocket! :o) So, make your Swagbuckin' work for you—whether it helps offset the cost of cloth diapering, MP3s, or your reading addiction. Happy swagging!
